Sibiu is a city in central Romania, situated in the historical region of Transylvania. Located some 275 km (171 mi) north-west of Bucharest, the city straddles the Cibin River, a tributary of the Olt River. Now the seat of Sibiu County, between 1692 and 1791 and 1849–65, Sibiu was the capital of the Principality of Transylvania. Until 1876, the Hecht house in Sibiu served as the seat of the Transylvanian Saxon University.

One of the first things YOU'll notice when exploring Sibiu is the city's unique blend of architectural styles. From Baroque to Gothic, Renaissance to Art Nouveau, the city is a veritable melting pot of design influences. The stunning houses with their brightly colored facades are a sight to behold, and the winding cobbled streets and picturesque courtyards only add to the city's charm.

For those interested in history, Sibiu does not disappoint. The city's Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage site, and it's easy to see why. The imposing walls and towers of the medieval citadel are a testament to Sibiu's strategic importance throughout the centuries. The city's museums and galleries offer a fascinating glimpse into local history and culture, and the Brukenthal National Museum is a must-visit for art enthusiasts.
